For small businesses that want to generate buzz about their company, turning to a Public Relations firm isn’t always an affordable option. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do it on your own at a price you can afford. There are many free and low cost options available that makes it easier than ever to get your name out there.
The obvious choices are to have your company’s own Facebook and Twitter pages. If you’re B2B, it also makes sense to set up a corporate group on LinkedIn. These are all free and you can get started immediately. But you should also consider launching a public relations initiative when you have announcements that are newsworthy. For example, if you’re launching a new product, established a notable partnership or your company has achieved a significant milestone, you should write a press release and distribute it across the news wire. There are countless press release distribution services that you can use – some free, some paid. Make sure you ‘optimize the release’ with hyperlinks back to your site for maximum impact on your SEO results.
You should also subscribe to an eNewsletter such as Help A Reporter Out (HARO). With this free service, you’ll receive daily emails listing journalists who are looking for sources for a variety of topics. Many of the requests are related to small businesses and it’s a way to generate free publicity.
